Boating licence & theory exam FAQ

Common questions about Israeli boating licences: which licence you need, minimum age, how many questions the theory exam has, the pass mark and how to prepare.

Are these the questions that appear in the exam?

The theory exams are multiple-choice and are based on the question banks published by the Shipping and Ports Authority. We train you on the full bank for your exam.

Which licence do I need?

A jet ski requires Mashit 11. A motorboat up to 110 kW requires Mashit 12 (above that, Mashit 13). Sailboats 7-12 m require Mashit 21. Vessels up to 24 m require Mashit 30 (skipper).

How long does it take to prepare?

Most learners are ready for a single exam within 1-3 weeks of short daily sessions. The readiness meter tells you when you're there.

What do I get for free?

A full free topic in every exam, plus one full exam simulation. No credit card needed.

Is the payment secure?

Payments are processed by Tranzila, a PCI-DSS certified Israeli payment provider. We never see or store your card details.

Can I study on my phone?

Yes. The site is fully responsive and works in any modern mobile browser.

What is the difference between Mashit 12 and Mashit 13?

Mashit 12 lets you operate a motorboat of up to 110 kW, while Mashit 13 is for motorboats above 110 kW. Mashit 13 requires age 18 and an existing Mashit 12. Both share the same theory exam - Seamanship B.

What is the minimum age for a boating licence in Israel?

Jet ski (Mashit 11) and sailboat (Mashit 21) - 16. Motorboat (Mashit 12) - 17. Mashit 13 and skipper (Mashit 30) - 18. Always confirm current requirements with the Israel Shipping and Ports Authority.

Which theory exams are required for the skipper licence (Mashit 30)?

Mashit 30 requires four theory exams: Seamanship C, Navigation A (coastal, on a chart), Navigation B (instruments) and Engineering.

How many questions are in the Seamanship B exam and what is the pass mark?

The Seamanship B exam (for Mashit 12, 13 and 21) has 50 multiple-choice questions, lasts 60 minutes and the pass mark is 80%.

What are mandatory questions in the theory exam?

Computerized exams include mandatory questions: one mistake on any of them fails the exam even if the overall score passes. We flag them, drill them first, and our simulations fail on them too - just like the real exam.

Are you affiliated with the Shipping and Ports Authority?

No. We are an independent study tool. The theory exams are set and administered by the Israel Shipping and Ports Authority, which also sets exam dates, fees and official requirements.
